A signed AMA lane can carry buses where an empty lane may look inviting—and in some sections traffic runs opposite nearby lanes.
Official traffic controls and police directions always take precedence. Live weather, closures, and rental policies can change.
Stay out of an exclusive lane
If the lane is signed and diamond-marked for AMA buses or authorized traffic, do not enter. Apply the restriction only where the signs and markings actually designate it.
Read lane-control signals
A green arrow permits use of the lane. A yellow X means leave it safely, and a red X prohibits entry. Never infer a lane's direction from the absence of traffic.
Expect the unusual in San Juan
Some designated bus sections operate opposite ordinary traffic. Check every overhead signal, painted diamond, and roadside sign before crossing or entering a controlled lane.
