A tropical downpour can turn a familiar road into an impassable crossing. Water over pavement means turn around.
Official traffic controls and police directions always take precedence. Live weather, closures, and rental policies can change.
Do not test the depth
Never enter a flooded roadway or drive around a barricade. There is no useful safe-depth estimate from the driver's seat: water can hide a washed-out roadbed, debris, or a strong current.
Reroute or wait
Turn around while you still have space, choose higher ground, and delay the trip if necessary. Do not follow another vehicle into water just because it made the attempt first.

Monitor National Weather Service San Juan alerts and the Puerto Rico Highways and Transportation Authority traffic map. After a tropical storm, drive only when necessary and expect closures to outlast the rain.
